The term "anthrobiome" juxtaposes the untamed realms of biomes with environments profoundly altered by human influence. I introduced this neologism to spotlight the extensive impact of our activities on Nature. Merging "anthro" (human) with "-biome" (an ecosystem), it describes areas significantly shaped by anthropogenic intervention, molded to our exclusive benefits.This concept acknowledges the current state of the Earth, symbolizing the Anthropocene epoch — a time marked by human dominance over the planet's ecosystems, from the depths of the oceans to the expanse of the atmosphere.
As a framework, the anthrobiome offers novel insights into the complex interactions between humans and biomes. It encourages a reevaluation of our place within the Earth.
